Phewa Lake and the Annapurna mountains in Pokhara, Nepal

NRECNA X in Pokhara, Nepal | NA Convention Travel Guide

If you’re traveling to Pokhara for NRECNA X, you’re heading to one of those places where the destination can easily become part of the trip rather than simply the place where the convention happens.

Pokhara sits beneath the Annapurna range and is best known for mountain views, lakes, and its role as a gateway to the Himalayas. Phewa Lake and the Lakeside district form the center of much of the visitor activity, while viewpoints, museums, temples, and easy excursions give you plenty of ways to spend a few extra hours—or a few extra days—around the convention. Start with Lakeside and Phewa Lake

For a first-time visitor, Lakeside is probably the easiest place to get oriented.

The neighborhood runs along Phewa Lake and contains a large concentration of hotels, restaurants, shops, and visitor services. The lake itself is one of Pokhara’s defining attractions, and boats can be hired for time on the water or for a trip to Tal Barahi Temple, located on an island in the lake. Nepal Tourism Board

That also makes this one of the easiest activities to fit around convention programming. You don’t necessarily need to dedicate an entire day to sightseeing. A walk along the lakefront or a short boat ride can work well during a free morning or afternoon.

See the Himalayas from Sarangkot

If you have a free morning, Sarangkot is one of Pokhara’s classic viewpoints.

The area is known for sunrise views over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, and Pokhara tourism officials list it among the city's signature visitor experiences. It is also a major paragliding launch area. Pokhara Tourism

The catch is the hour: sunrise means an early start.

For someone attending a full convention schedule, that can actually work pretty well. You can make the trip before the day's programming begins rather than sacrificing an entire convention afternoon.

World Peace Pagoda

On the hills above Phewa Lake sits the World Peace Pagoda, another good option when you have a few hours rather than a full sightseeing day.

The Buddhist stupa overlooks the Pokhara Valley and provides wide views toward the Annapurna range. The Nepal Tourism Board specifically highlights the hilltop location as one of the area's major viewpoints. Department of Transport Management

Pairing the pagoda with some time around the lake can make a simple half-day outing without creating an overly complicated itinerary.

International Mountain Museum

For something indoors—and something particularly appropriate in a city so closely associated with the Himalayas—the International Mountain Museum is worth considering.

The museum covers mountaineering, mountain environments, Himalayan cultures, geography, and the history of climbing. The Pokhara Tourism Council lists it about 5 kilometers from Lakeside. Pokhara Tourism Council

It is a good alternative if weather obscures the mountain views or you simply want a lower-key afternoon.

You Don't Have to Turn This Into an Expedition

Pokhara is a launching point for some serious trekking, but attending NRECNA X doesn't mean you need to add a multiday Himalayan trek to your trip.

There are plenty of lighter options: boating on Phewa Lake, walking Lakeside, visiting the Peace Pagoda, seeing the mountains from Sarangkot, visiting a museum, or just allowing yourself some unstructured time in the city. Pokhara's tourism office emphasizes exactly that mix of nature, culture, and outdoor activity. Pokhara Tourism

That makes Pokhara particularly well suited to a convention trip. You can add memorable experiences without building a second vacation itinerary on top of the event.

Getting Around Pokhara

Lakeside itself is relatively easy to explore on foot. For destinations farther out—such as Sarangkot or the Peace Pagoda—taxis are a straightforward option.

Travelers arriving by air can also take a taxi or arrange a hotel pickup into Lakeside. Current local travel guidance recommends confirming the price before a taxi trip because airport fares may not be metered. PokharaLakeside.com

Pokhara is also reachable by road from Kathmandu, while Nepal Tourism Board information lists air service between Kathmandu and Pokhara. Department of Transport Management

Consider Adding a Day or Two

This is one destination where extending the trip makes a lot of sense.

An extra day gives you enough breathing room for a sunrise viewpoint, time on Phewa Lake, the Peace Pagoda, or simply exploring Lakeside without trying to squeeze everything between convention sessions.

Two or three additional days make it possible to explore farther around the Pokhara Valley, visit quieter lakes such as Begnas Lake, or create a more relaxed introduction to Nepal before continuing elsewhere in the country. Pokhara Tourism
