NA Malta Convention 2026: Things to Do in Malta

NA Malta Convention 2026 brings members of Narcotics Anonymous to St. Paul’s Bay from November 13–15, 2026. Held at the db San Antonio Resort Hotel, the convention places visitors near Malta’s northern coastline while leaving some of the island’s most memorable destinations within reach.

This is a trip that can easily become more than a convention weekend. Malta is compact, but its fortified cities, seaside communities, historic streets, and neighboring island of Gozo give travelers plenty to explore before or after the main program.

Here are some practical ways to experience Malta while you’re in town for NA Malta Convention 2026.

Get to Know St. Paul’s Bay and Qawra

The convention hotel is in Qawra, part of the larger St. Paul’s Bay area on Malta’s northern coast. The surrounding district is one of the island’s established visitor areas, with waterfront walks, restaurants, cafés, shops, and public transportation nearby.

For an easy activity between convention sessions, walk along the Qawra and Buġibba waterfront. The promenade follows the rocky coastline and offers open views across St. Paul’s Bay. It is an uncomplicated way to get outside without committing a large part of the day to sightseeing.

The waterfront is also a good place to slow down with a coffee or find a casual meal. Because November brings shorter days, an afternoon walk may provide better coastal views than waiting until the evening.

Visit the Malta National Aquarium

The Malta National Aquarium is located in Qawra, close to the convention area. Its exhibits focus on marine environments found around Malta and elsewhere in the Mediterranean.

This is one of the easiest nearby attractions to fit around the convention schedule. It does not require traveling across the island, and the surrounding Qawra Point area provides additional coastal views and walking space.

Check the aquarium’s current hours before visiting, particularly if you plan to go late in the afternoon.

Explore Mdina, Malta’s Silent City

Mdina is one of Malta’s most memorable places. The fortified hilltop city is known for its narrow lanes, limestone buildings, quiet courtyards, and mixture of medieval and Baroque architecture.

Once inside the city walls, Mdina is best explored on foot. Visitors can wander through its small streets, stop at scenic overlooks, see St. Paul’s Cathedral, and continue into neighboring Rabat if time allows.

NA Malta has scheduled an official guided visit to Mdina on Thursday, November 12, before the convention begins. That makes arriving at least one day early especially worthwhile. Even travelers exploring independently will find Mdina well suited to a half-day outing.

After dark, Mdina becomes quieter and earns its familiar nickname, the “Silent City.” The illuminated streets create a very different atmosphere from a daytime visit.

Spend Time in Valletta

Malta’s capital, Valletta, is a natural choice for anyone adding an extra day to the trip. The compact historic center can be explored largely on foot, although its hills and stone stairways can make the distances feel longer than they appear on a map.

A simple Valletta visit could include:

  • Walking through the streets near City Gate

  • Visiting the Upper Barrakka Gardens

  • Looking across Grand Harbour toward the Three Cities

  • Exploring Republic Street and the surrounding lanes

  • Stopping at a bakery or café for a casual meal

  • Visiting St. John’s Co-Cathedral or one of the city’s museums

The Upper Barrakka Gardens are particularly useful for a shorter visit. They offer broad views across Grand Harbour without requiring an entire day of structured sightseeing.

Valletta is better treated as a planned half-day or full-day outing than something squeezed between convention sessions. Consider visiting before Friday’s program begins or after the convention concludes on Sunday.

Make Sunday Evening Part of the Trip

Many conventions finish around midday or early afternoon on Sunday. If the NA Malta Convention follows a similar pattern, Sunday evening may still provide time for one final experience.

Valletta can work well if you have not visited earlier, although travelers should allow plenty of time for transportation. A quieter alternative is to stay near St. Paul’s Bay, walk along the waterfront, and have a relaxed dinner without trying to fit another major excursion into the weekend.

Anyone flying home Monday may find Sunday afternoon particularly useful for exploring without extending the trip by another full day.

Extend the Trip to Gozo

NA Malta has also scheduled an official Gozo excursion for Monday, November 16. This creates a natural reason to remain in Malta after the convention rather than leaving immediately on Sunday.

Gozo has a quieter and more rural atmosphere than the main island. Its landscape includes small villages, coastal viewpoints, historic churches, and the fortified Citadel above Victoria.

Travelers visiting independently should treat Gozo as a full-day trip. Reaching the island requires traveling to a ferry departure point and then allowing time for transportation after arrival. It is much less practical as a short excursion between convention activities.

Staying through Monday turns the convention weekend into a broader Malta experience: Mdina before the convention, St. Paul’s Bay during it, and Gozo afterward.

Try Traditional Maltese Food

Malta’s food reflects Mediterranean, Sicilian, North African, and British influences. You do not need a formal restaurant reservation to begin exploring it.

Look for:

  • Pastizzi: Flaky pastries traditionally filled with ricotta or curried peas

  • Ftira: Maltese bread commonly served with tomatoes, tuna, olives, capers, or other fillings

  • Imqaret: Fried pastries filled with dates

  • Rabbit dishes: One of Malta’s best-known traditional specialties

  • Fresh fish and seafood: Widely available in coastal communities

  • Maltese bread: Often served with olive oil, tomatoes, and local accompaniments

Pastizzi are especially convenient during a busy convention weekend because they are inexpensive, widely available, and easy to eat without planning a full meal.

Getting Around Malta

Malta International Airport is on the opposite side of the island from St. Paul’s Bay. Although the distances may appear short, traffic can make travel times unpredictable.

Public buses connect the airport, St. Paul’s Bay, Valletta, Mdina, and other major destinations. The Buġibba bus terminal serves the St. Paul’s Bay area, and Malta Public Transport provides a journey planner, route information, and real-time updates through its Tallinja app.

Buses can be practical for travelers with flexible schedules. For airport trips or time-sensitive journeys, a taxi or app-based ride may be more convenient.

Driving gives travelers greater flexibility, but visitors from the United States should remember that Malta drives on the left. Streets can also be narrow, parking may be limited, and local traffic can feel unfamiliar. A rental car is not essential for a convention trip centered in Qawra.

What to Expect in November

November in Malta is generally mild, with daytime temperatures commonly around the upper 60s to low 70s Fahrenheit. Evenings can feel cooler, particularly near the water.

November can also bring rain, wind, and sudden showers. Pack layers, a light rain jacket, comfortable walking shoes, and something warmer for evenings along the coast.

The combination of mild temperatures and fewer summer crowds can make November pleasant for walking through Valletta, Mdina, and St. Paul’s Bay. However, outdoor and ferry plans should remain flexible in case the weather changes.

Build a Simple Malta Convention Itinerary

A practical extended itinerary could look like this:

Thursday: Arrive early and explore Mdina
Friday: Walk the Qawra waterfront before the convention
Saturday: Attend convention activities and remain near St. Paul’s Bay
Sunday: Visit Valletta or enjoy a relaxed waterfront evening after the convention
Monday: Spend the day exploring Gozo

Travelers with less time can still experience Malta by concentrating on St. Paul’s Bay and choosing either Mdina or Valletta as one major outing.

A Convention Trip with Room to Explore

Malta’s compact size makes it possible to experience several very different places during one visit. St. Paul’s Bay provides the seaside setting, Mdina offers quiet historic streets, Valletta adds grand architecture and harbor views, and Gozo creates an opportunity to extend the trip beyond the main convention weekend.

NA Malta Convention 2026 can therefore become more than a flight, hotel stay, and convention schedule. With an early arrival or one additional day, it can become a memorable recovery-centered trip through one of the Mediterranean’s most distinctive destinations.
