The Mid-Willamette Valley Area of Narcotics Anonymous Convention (MWVANA Convention 2027) is scheduled for October 8–10, 2027, in Seaside, Oregon. Seaside makes this an especially easy convention to turn into an Oregon Coast weekend. The convention center sits near downtown, only a few blocks from the Pacific Ocean, the historic Promenade and Seaside's compact collection of restaurants, shops and attractions.
You don't need an elaborate itinerary here. A walk along the beach, a good meal and a couple of hours exploring the coast can fit naturally around convention time.
Getting to Seaside
For travelers flying in, Portland International Airport (PDX) is the major airport most visitors are likely to use. Visit Seaside lists the drive from PDX at approximately 90 miles and about two hours, primarily via Highway 26 west to Highway 101. Seaside Oregon
That makes a rental car convenient, particularly if you want to explore Cannon Beach, state parks or other North Coast destinations before or after the convention.
For people driving from Portland or the Willamette Valley, the trip west across the Coast Range is straightforward, but coastal weather can change quickly. Give yourself comfortable travel time rather than planning to arrive immediately before an important convention session.
Once you're in Seaside, you may find that the car stays parked much of the weekend.
Walk the Historic Seaside Promenade
One of Seaside's defining attractions is also one of its simplest: the Prom, the paved oceanfront Promenade that has been part of the town since 1921.

Because the convention center is near the downtown core, a Prom walk is exactly the kind of activity that works around a convention schedule. You could head toward the ocean after a morning session, walk for half an hour and still be back without turning it into an all-day excursion.
In October, bring a jacket even if the weather looks good when you leave.
Spend Some Quiet Time on Seaside Beach
Seaside's broad beach stretches for roughly 2.5 miles along the Pacific, and access points are scattered throughout town. The Turnaround provides one of the easiest routes from downtown onto the sand. Seaside Oregon
That makes the beach particularly useful during an NA convention weekend. It doesn't need to become an activity you schedule. It can simply be a place to walk, think, talk with a friend or get a little space between sessions.
Fall can also bring dramatic coastal conditions. Pay attention to tides, surf and weather advisories, and don't assume the Pacific will behave like a calmer summer beach.
October on the Oregon Coast
October is a transition month on the North Coast.

Packing layers is the right strategy. Bring a rain jacket, comfortable walking shoes and something warmer for evenings along the water.

Explore Downtown Seaside
Broadway connects downtown directly with the Turnaround and beach, so sightseeing here doesn't require complicated planning.
You can walk among local shops, cafés, restaurants and classic beach-town attractions, then continue straight toward the ocean. The historic Gilbert District, east of the Broadway bridge, provides another walkable cluster of businesses and older architecture. Seaside Oregon
This compact layout is one of the advantages of MWVANA 2027's location. Instead of driving across a large city every time you have two free hours, you can simply step outside and explore.
Eat Like You're on the Oregon Coast
Seafood is naturally part of the food landscape here, but Seaside's restaurant scene isn't limited to it.
The city's official tourism guide highlights everything from fish and chips, clam chowder and Dungeness crab to Mexican food, pizza, Asian restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops and casual eateries. Seaside Oregon
For convention weekend, there's no need to turn meals into another logistical project. Downtown and Broadway give you plenty of choices close to the convention area.
If you're traveling with friends from the fellowship, dinner after sessions can become one of the simplest—and often most memorable—parts of the trip.
Visit the Seaside Aquarium
When the Oregon Coast decides to provide a proper rainy day, Seaside Aquarium gives you an easy indoor option close to the Prom.

That makes it useful as a flexible choice rather than something you need to reserve an entire day for.
Take a Short Coastal Drive
If you have a vehicle and a larger opening in your schedule, Seaside works well as a base for seeing more of Oregon's North Coast.
Cannon Beach is just south of Seaside and is known for its beach and Haystack Rock. Continuing along Highway 101 opens up additional viewpoints, forests and coastal scenery.
You don't need to cover a huge distance. Even a short drive south can give you a different view of the coastline before returning to Seaside for the convention.
October weather should decide how ambitious you get. On a clear day, a coastal drive can be fantastic. In heavy wind or rain, staying close to town may be the better choice.
Look Toward Tillamook Head
From Seaside Beach and the Prom, Tillamook Head provides the forested headland framing the southern horizon.
For visitors wanting a more active outing, the surrounding area includes hiking opportunities and coastal viewpoints. Seaside's visitor bureau specifically promotes fall walking and hiking as part of the season's appeal. Seaside Oregon
A hike isn't necessary to enjoy the setting, though. For a convention trip, the better choice may simply be a long Prom walk with views toward the headland.
Make Room for the Convention
Seaside offers enough to fill a much longer vacation, but MWVANA 2027 doesn't have to become an Oregon Coast sightseeing marathon.
That's part of the destination's appeal.
The convention center, downtown and Pacific shoreline are close enough together that you can keep recovery at the center of the trip while still experiencing the place you're visiting.
Attend the convention. Walk the Prom. Get something good to eat. Watch the Pacific for a while. Spend time with people you don't normally see.
Sometimes that's plenty.
If You Have an Extra Day
An extra day gives you the option of expanding the trip without crowding convention weekend.
You could spend more time exploring the North Coast, drive south toward Cannon Beach, walk a longer section of the beach, explore the surrounding forests, or simply slow the entire trip down.
And if October weather turns stormy, Seaside itself is built for exactly that kind of coastal weekend: rain jacket, warm drink, ocean views and nowhere you absolutely need to rush off to.
