FRCNA 45 Orlando Travel Guide: Things to Do Near International Drive

FRCNA 45 brings the Florida Regional Convention of Narcotics Anonymous to Orlando from July 1–4, 2027. The convention will be held at the Rosen Centre at 9840 International Drive, placing visitors in the middle of one of Orlando’s busiest entertainment districts.

Orlando is famous for its theme parks, but you do not need a full week—or a theme-park-sized budget—to make this convention weekend feel like a real Florida getaway. International Drive offers restaurants, attractions, shopping and evening activities within a relatively compact area, while several of Central Florida’s most interesting neighborhoods and outdoor destinations are available if you extend the trip.

Before making plans, view the current details for FRCNA 45 in our NA convention directory.

Start With International Drive

International Drive, usually called I-Drive, is Orlando’s primary visitor corridor. The Rosen Centre is positioned near the Orange County Convention Center and within easy reach of dozens of restaurants and attractions.

That location is useful during a convention weekend. Instead of planning an elaborate excursion between sessions, you can choose one nearby activity, enjoy dinner or take an evening walk without turning the outing into an all-day project.

A few of the area’s most recognizable destinations include:

  • ICON Park

  • Pointe Orlando

  • The Orlando Eye

  • SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium

  • Madame Tussauds Orlando

  • WonderWorks

  • Orlando International Premium Outlets

  • Numerous miniature-golf courses and indoor attractions

Many attractions require admission, but walking through ICON Park, Pointe Orlando or another entertainment complex can still provide a change of scenery without purchasing a large vacation package.

Take an Evening Trip to ICON Park

ICON Park is one of the easiest additions to a convention itinerary. This open-air entertainment complex combines restaurants, shops and attractions in one walkable area.

Its centerpiece is the 400-foot Orlando Eye observation wheel. A ride can provide a broad view of Central Florida, particularly around sunset or after the city lights come on. The complex also includes SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium, Madame Tussauds and several more energetic attractions.

You do not have to purchase admission to enjoy the atmosphere. ICON Park can work equally well as a simple destination for dinner, dessert or an evening walk with friends from the convention.

Keep a Rainy-Afternoon Plan Ready

Orlando in July is hot, humid and prone to afternoon thunderstorms. A clear morning can turn into a heavy downpour with little warning, so it helps to keep at least one indoor option available.

WonderWorks, SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium and Madame Tussauds are all close to the International Drive corridor. The area also offers indoor miniature golf, escape rooms, shopping centers and family-entertainment complexes.

A practical approach is to schedule outdoor activities early in the day, return to the convention or an indoor attraction during the hottest afternoon hours, and head outside again in the evening. A lightweight rain jacket or compact umbrella can earn its place in your luggage quickly.

Use the I-RIDE Trolley

Visitors staying around International Drive may not need a rental car for every part of the weekend. The I-RIDE Trolley operates throughout the International Drive district, connecting hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, the Orange County Convention Center and many nearby attractions.

The system travels a 14-mile route with more than 100 marked stops. It currently operates daily from 8 a.m. until 10:30 p.m., although schedules and fares should be confirmed before the trip. The trolleys are enclosed, air-conditioned and wheelchair accessible.

This can be a convenient choice for short trips along I-Drive, particularly when you would rather avoid driving, traffic and repeated parking charges.

Review the official I-RIDE Trolley information and map before traveling.

Choose One Major Orlando Experience

FRCNA 45 falls over the July Fourth weekend, so Orlando will offer no shortage of entertainment. It will also be a busy holiday period. If a major theme park is important to you, consider adding a day before or after the convention instead of squeezing it between convention sessions.

Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld Orlando can each fill an entire day. Tickets, parking, transportation and time in the parks can make a supposedly quick visit much larger than expected.

Choosing one major experience and giving it a dedicated day will usually create a more enjoyable trip than trying to sample several resorts in a hurry.

For a lower-complexity outing, Disney Springs and Universal CityWalk offer restaurants, shopping and entertainment without requiring admission to a theme park. Parking, special-event access and individual attraction costs can change, so check the official information before leaving.

Find Food Beyond the Familiar Chains

International Drive has an enormous concentration of restaurants. Many are familiar national brands, which can be helpful when a group needs something predictable, but the surrounding Orlando area also offers Caribbean, Latin American, Middle Eastern, Vietnamese, Brazilian and Southern food.

Nearby Restaurant Row, centered around Sand Lake Road, is another useful dining area. It contains everything from casual meals and dessert stops to more expensive sit-down restaurants.

For a more local experience, consider exploring one of Orlando’s neighborhood dining districts before or after the convention. Mills 50 is known for its broad range of Asian restaurants, while Winter Park’s Park Avenue combines restaurants, coffee shops and independent stores in a walkable setting.

Large convention groups may want to call ahead. Orlando restaurants are accustomed to visitors, but the July Fourth weekend can still produce long waits.

Escape the Tourist Corridor in Winter Park

If you add an extra day and want to see a quieter side of Central Florida, Winter Park offers a sharp contrast to International Drive.

Park Avenue is lined with restaurants, boutiques, museums and shaded public spaces. Nearby attractions include the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, the Rollins Museum of Art and the Winter Park Chain of Lakes.

The Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour offers narrated trips through the area’s lakes and canals. Because July weather can change quickly, check operating conditions before making the drive.

Winter Park is not within walking distance of the convention hotel, so this outing works best for travelers with a car or those prepared to use a rideshare service.

Leave Space for Sunday Afternoon

Many NA conventions conclude around noon or 1 p.m. on Sunday. Because FRCNA 45 ends on July Fourth, travelers may have several hours available before an evening flight or before beginning the drive home.

A relaxed Sunday plan could include lunch on International Drive, an indoor attraction, shopping for souvenirs or a final walk through ICON Park. Travelers staying another night could also look for local Independence Day activities, but holiday schedules, road closures and fireworks plans should be verified closer to the event.

Avoid packing Sunday so tightly that a delayed closing session, heavy traffic or an afternoon thunderstorm creates unnecessary stress.

Build the Trip Around Connection

Orlando makes it easy to overfill an itinerary. There will always be another attraction, restaurant or park competing for your time.

The better approach may be to choose one or two experiences that complement the convention. Share a meal with people you met during the weekend. Ride the trolley to an evening attraction. Add a quiet Sunday afternoon or an extra vacation day after the closing meeting.

FRCNA 45 already provides the reason to come together. Orlando simply gives you more ways to turn that gathering into a trip worth remembering.
