The Aotearoa New Zealand Convention 2027 brings Narcotics Anonymous members together in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, New Zealand, February 19–21, 2027. The official Aotearoa New Zealand NA regional listing confirms the dates and Mount Eden location, while the convention's linked event information identifies the venue as Mt Eden War Memorial Hall, 487–489 Dominion Road, Mount Eden, Auckland 1024. The organizer is the Regional Services Committee (Aotearoa NZ RSC). Narcotics Anonymous
Auckland is a particularly good convention destination because you do not have to choose between city sightseeing and outdoor scenery. From the Mount Eden neighborhood, visitors can reach volcanic viewpoints, waterfront walks, museums, diverse food along Dominion Road and ferry trips across the Waitematā Harbour without turning convention weekend into a complicated road trip.
Getting to Auckland and Mount Eden
Most international travelers will arrive through Auckland Airport. For visitors using public transportation, Auckland Transport's AirportLink bus connects the airport with Puhinui Station, where passengers can transfer into Auckland's wider rail network. The AirportLink runs seven days a week, and Auckland's buses, trains and most ferries accept contactless bank cards and compatible mobile wallets as well as AT HOP cards. Auckland Transport
Once you're closer to central Auckland, Mount Eden is well connected by rail and bus. Auckland's expanded rail network now includes Maungawhau Station, and buses also operate along Mount Eden Road and Dominion Road. Because transit routes and service patterns can change, the AT Journey Planner is the best tool to check your specific airport-to-accommodation or hotel-to-convention route shortly before traveling. Auckland Transport
If you're staying near the convention venue, you may not need a rental car at all for a short Auckland trip. Public transportation works well for many of the places that make the most sense around convention hours.
Start Close to the Convention at Maungawhau / Mount Eden
One of Auckland's best viewpoints is almost in the convention's backyard.
Maungawhau / Mount Eden rises 143 metres above the surrounding city and offers broad views across Auckland, its harbours and surrounding landscape. It is also an ancestral volcanic site with deep Māori cultural significance, including archaeological terraces and the summit crater Te Ipu-a-Mataoho. Visitors are asked to stay on marked paths and respect the summit as a sacred place. Auckland NZ
This is one of the easiest sightseeing choices for convention weekend because it doesn't require traveling across the entire city. You could visit in the morning, after an afternoon session or during a longer break and still keep the convention as the center of the day.
The walk toward the summit is paved but can be steep in places, so comfortable shoes are worthwhile.
Eat Your Way Along Dominion Road
One advantage of holding the convention on Dominion Road is that one of Auckland's most diverse food corridors is right outside the venue area.
Auckland's official visitor site describes Dominion Road as a long stretch packed with cafés, restaurants and international food, particularly Asian cuisine. You'll find everything from Sichuan noodles and dumplings to hot pot, Japanese food, Mediterranean restaurants, bakeries and casual neighborhood cafés. Auckland NZ
That makes meals particularly easy on this trip. Instead of losing convention time traveling downtown for every dinner, you can explore the neighborhood you're already in.
A group of friends could walk or take a short bus ride down Dominion Road, grab noodles or dumplings, and be back without turning dinner into a major outing.
Spend a Few Hours on Auckland's Waterfront
When you have a larger block of free time, head toward the Viaduct and Auckland waterfront.
The Viaduct Harbour area combines pedestrian-friendly waterfront space with cafés, restaurants, marinas and views across Waitematā Harbour. From nearby downtown you can also walk toward Queens Wharf, Wynyard Quarter and the ferry terminals. Auckland NZ
This is an easy place to explore without an itinerary. Walk along the water, have lunch, watch the ferries and sailboats, and return when you're ready.
Auckland's maritime setting is such a major part of the city's character that even a couple of hours near the harbour gives you a much better sense of the destination.
Use Auckland's Ferries for an Easy Extra Adventure
Auckland's ferry system makes it possible to turn a boat ride into part of your sightseeing.
For a manageable outing, downtown ferry connections can take you across the harbour to destinations such as Devonport. If you have an extra day, Waiheke Island is a much larger excursion. Auckland's tourism organization describes Waiheke as roughly a 40-minute ferry ride from the city centre, with beaches, walking, restaurants, art and extensive coastline. Auckland NZ
For convention weekend itself, keep expectations realistic. A quick harbour outing is much easier to fit between scheduled activities than trying to squeeze an entire island day into a short break.
Waiheke makes more sense if you're arriving early or staying after the convention.
Consider a Short Waterfront-to-City Walk
Auckland is also a city where simply walking can reveal a lot.
The full Coast to Coast Walkway runs about 16 kilometres between the Waitematā and Manukau harbours, crossing parks and volcanic landscapes including Maungawhau / Mount Eden. You certainly do not need to walk the entire route during a convention trip. Auckland NZ
Instead, borrow pieces of it.
A short section through Mount Eden, Auckland Domain or the central city can give you a taste of Auckland's unusual combination of city streets, greenery and volcanic terrain without consuming half the weekend.
Add Auckland Museum if You Want an Indoor Option
For travelers who enjoy history and culture—or who get a rainy afternoon—Auckland War Memorial Museum is another practical city attraction.
Auckland Transport specifically includes the museum in its visitor-oriented public-transport itineraries, making it accessible without a car. The museum sits within Auckland Domain, so you can combine an indoor visit with a walk through one of the city's major green spaces. Auckland Transport
This can also be a useful backup if weather changes your outdoor plans.
What February Weather Is Like in Auckland
February is summer in New Zealand, and Auckland's official tourism organization describes the December-through-February period as warm and humid, with long daylight hours and the possibility of passing showers. Typical daytime temperatures are commonly around 20–25°C, or roughly 68–77°F. Auckland NZ
For convention weekend, pack lightweight clothes, comfortable walking shoes, sun protection and a light layer. A compact rain jacket isn't a bad idea either; Auckland weather can change during the day.
February's long evenings are particularly useful for this kind of trip because you can attend convention activities and still potentially have daylight left for a walk or waterfront outing.
Make Space for Recovery, Not Just Sightseeing
Auckland can easily fill a week, so there is no reason to try to fit the whole city into three convention days.
The most practical trip might be something like this: visit Maungawhau because it's close to the convention, explore Dominion Road over a couple of meals, and choose one larger outing such as the waterfront or a ferry ride.
That still leaves room for meetings, workshops, fellowship, meals with other members and the conversations that tend to happen between scheduled events.
The destination should add to the convention trip rather than compete with it.
If You Have an Extra Day
If you've traveled a long way to New Zealand, adding at least one extra day can dramatically change the pace.
You could take the ferry to Waiheke, spend more time around the waterfront, explore Auckland's museums, or simply enjoy the city without having to keep checking the convention schedule.
For international visitors especially, Auckland can also serve as the starting point for a much longer New Zealand trip. But even if you stay only for convention weekend, Mount Eden's location puts several distinctly Auckland experiences within easy reach.
