The 8th Bogotá Area Convention — “Miembros responsables y productivos de la sociedad” comes to Bogotá, Colombia, October 31–November 2, 2026, at the Centro de Convenciones Cafam Floresta, Avenida 68 #90-88. The official Narcóticos Anónimos Colombia event page confirms the three-day convention, venue and theme. NACOLOMBIA
Bogotá sits high in the Andes at roughly 2,640 meters above sea level, giving the Colombian capital a cool mountain climate and a completely different feel from the country’s lower-elevation cities. Visit Bogotá
Explore La Candelaria
If you have a few hours outside the convention, La Candelaria is one of the best places to begin.
Bogotá’s historic center combines cobblestone streets, colorful façades, churches, plazas, museums, cafés and galleries within a compact walkable district. The official Visit Bogotá guide to La Candelaria describes it as the place where much of the city’s history, culture and creative life come together. Visit Bogotá
Walk around.
See Plaza de Bolívar.
Find somewhere for coffee or food.
Then head back when you are ready.
Visit Monserrate
Monserrate rises above Bogotá’s eastern side and gives you one of the clearest views of just how enormous the city is.
The summit sits at about 3,152 meters above sea level and can be reached by cable car, funicular or hiking trail. Bogota.gov
For a convention weekend, the cable car or funicular is the easier choice if you are short on time.
The elevation is significant, so take it easy if you have just arrived in Bogotá from near sea level.
Spend Some Time Around Plaza de Bolívar
Plaza de Bolívar sits at the center of Bogotá’s historic district.
Government buildings, churches and some of the city’s most important historic architecture surround the square, making it an easy addition to a La Candelaria walk.
You do not need a formal tour.
Walk through the square.
Look around.
Spend some time in the surrounding streets.
Then move on when you are ready.
Visit the Gold Museum
The Museo del Oro — Gold Museum is one of Bogotá’s most recognized cultural attractions.
The museum’s collections explore Indigenous metalworking, archaeology and the societies that created thousands of gold and other objects long before modern Colombia existed.
Bogotá’s tourism office regularly identifies the Gold Museum among the city’s major cultural destinations. Visit Bogotá
This is a strong indoor option if October rain makes a longer outdoor outing less appealing.
Try Bogotá Food
Bogotá gives you plenty of opportunities to try Colombian food without turning meals into another project.
Look for ajiaco, empanadas, arepas, tamales and other regional dishes alongside an enormous restaurant scene.
La Candelaria, Chapinero and other central neighborhoods all have plenty of options.
Find somewhere comfortable.
Eat well.
Spend time with people from the fellowship.
That may be enough.
Getting Around Bogotá
Bogotá is a very large city, and traffic can affect travel times considerably.
The convention venue is in the Floresta area, northwest of the historic center, so do not assume downtown attractions will be a quick walk away.
Public transportation includes the TransMilenio rapid-bus system, while taxis and app-based rides can make some visitor trips simpler.
For a short convention weekend, plan outings by area rather than repeatedly crossing the city.
Getting From El Dorado Airport
El Dorado International Airport is Bogotá’s main gateway and one of the largest air hubs in Latin America.
The city’s official tourism information describes Bogotá as Colombia’s primary international gateway, with direct connections to more than 25 countries and over 70 international and domestic destinations. Visit Bogotá
From the airport, taxis, app-based transportation and public-transit options connect with different parts of the city.
Give yourself extra time around arrival and departure because road traffic can vary significantly.
Take the Altitude Seriously
Bogotá’s elevation is one of the most important practical details for visitors.
At roughly 2,600 meters above sea level, some travelers may notice shortness of breath, fatigue or headaches during the first day. Visit Bogotá
Drink water.
Do not overdo physical activity immediately after arriving.
Take your time on hills and stairs.
If you plan to visit Monserrate, remember that you will be going even higher.
Prepare for October and November Rain
Bogotá does not have four seasons in the same way many temperate cities do.
Instead, rainfall varies throughout the year, with October and November among the wetter periods. The city’s tourism office recommends carrying a jacket or rain layer and notes average temperatures generally ranging from about 10°C to 20°C. Visit Bogotá
Bring layers.
Bring something waterproof.
Comfortable walking shoes are useful too.
You may see sun, clouds and rain during the same afternoon.
Let Bogotá Fit Around the Convention
Bogotá could easily fill a week.
There are museums.
Historic neighborhoods.
Mountain views.
Food.
Parks.
But the 8th Bogotá Area Convention is the reason for the trip.
Spend time with the fellowship.
Go to meetings.
Listen.
Share.
Then, when you have some room in the schedule, explore La Candelaria, visit a museum or see the city from Monserrate.
You do not need to cover all of Bogotá.
