Introducing "While You're in Town": Travel Guides for NA Convention Travelers

October 8, 2026 | Dan's Custom Gifts, LLC

Attending a Narcotics Anonymous convention can be more than a weekend away. For many people, it's an opportunity to reconnect with friends, experience fellowship in a different community, and explore somewhere they've never been before.

At Dan's Custom Gifts, LLC, we started thinking about something: What if discovering an NA convention was just the beginning of the experience?

That question inspired our growing collection of "While You're in Town" convention travel guides.

These free articles are designed specifically for people traveling to NA conventions, helping visitors discover what their destination has to offer while making their travel planning a little easier.

Turning Convention Trips Into Opportunities to Explore

Every year, NA conventions bring people together in cities and communities around the world.

Some take place in major destinations like New York City, San Diego, and New Orleans. Others happen in smaller communities, mountain towns, coastal destinations, and places travelers might never have considered visiting.

We think that's part of what makes convention travel so interesting.

A convention might introduce someone to a city they've never visited, inspire a road trip with friends, or provide an opportunity to spend a few extra days exploring a new destination.

Our While You're in Town guides help visitors discover those possibilities.

Travel Information With Convention Attendees in Mind

Traditional travel guides are usually written for general tourists. Our guides approach each destination from a different perspective.

We begin with a specific NA convention and build a practical destination guide around its location and dates.

Depending on the destination, articles may include:

  • Getting there: Airports, driving considerations, and transportation options.

  • Getting around: Public transit, rental cars, walkable areas, and local transportation.

  • Things to see and do: Nearby attractions, parks, museums, historic sites, and other opportunities to explore.

  • Food and dining: Local dining areas and practical suggestions for finding meals.

  • Seasonal considerations: Weather, travel conditions, and other details relevant to the convention dates.

  • Useful resources: Links to official tourism organizations, transportation authorities, and convention information.

We focus on practical, destination-specific information rather than trying to replace the official convention website.

The idea is to help visitors make informed decisions about their travel and enjoy the destination without losing sight of the event that brought them there.

Explore Destinations Around the World

Our collection already includes guides for a variety of destinations, with more being added regularly.

For example:

New York City, New York

Our guide for the Greater New York Regional Convention explores the possibilities of visiting Manhattan, navigating public transportation, and discovering attractions near the convention destination.

San Diego, California

Our San Diego destination coverage helps travelers consider transportation, coastal attractions, and opportunities to experience Southern California while attending a convention.

Hekpoort, South Africa

Not every convention takes place in a major city. Our Southern Africa convention guide explores the rural Magaliesberg setting and the different travel considerations that come with visiting a destination outside a major urban center.

These destinations illustrate one of the things we enjoy most about this project: every convention location offers something different.

Connected Directly to Our NA Event Directory

The travel guides aren't a separate, unrelated collection of articles.

They're part of our larger effort to make NA events easier to discover and explore.

Our free NA Convention & Event Directory provides searchable event listings from across the United States and around the world.

When a destination guide is available for a convention, visitors can access it directly from the event listing through the Destination Guide link.

That means someone researching an upcoming convention can move from the event details to practical destination information without having to start their travel research from scratch.

Visitors can also use our Plan a Trip feature to explore multiple destinations and organize potential convention trips.

Everything is designed to work together.

Discovering New Reasons to Travel

We know that many NA members already travel to conventions regularly.

For those travelers, our guides can provide practical information about unfamiliar destinations and help them make the most of the trips they're already planning.

But we also hope the guides might inspire someone to consider an event they hadn't previously thought about attending.

Perhaps a convention in another state becomes the reason for a road trip. Maybe a destination across the country offers an opportunity to visit friends. Or perhaps someone discovers an international convention in a place they've always wanted to see.

The possibilities are different for everyone.

Our role is simply to make the information easier to find and explore.

A Growing Library of Free Travel Resources

We're continuing to expand the While You're in Town collection as we identify upcoming conventions and research their destinations.

Each guide is developed around a particular event, with attention to available convention information, practical travel considerations, and relevant official resources.

All of our destination guides are free to read.

You don't need to make a purchase or create an account to explore them.

We're excited to keep building this resource and hope it helps more people discover the opportunities that come with convention travel.

Whether your next NA convention takes you across town, across the country, or around the world, we hope you'll find something useful in our guides.
